designated mixes
As a guide, here are some common terms for different types of concrete
and screed and what they are used for – we can deliver all of these
mixes.
- C8 (Gen 0/18_1)
For kerb bedding and backing.
- C10 (Gen 1/16_1)
For blinding, mass concrete fill,
un-reinforced strip, trench fill and pad foundations, over-site below
suspended floors, and drainage works.
- C15 (Gen 2/15_1)
For house floors with no embedded
metal.
- C20 (Gen 3/ST 1/12_1)
For internal floor slabs.
- C25 (ST 2/11_1)
For footings/foundations and groundwork
- C30 (PAV1/ST 3/9_1)
For light use external slabs,
e.g. outdoor paved areas such as driveways, paths, patios, garages,
carports and pavements
- C35 (PAV2/ST 4/7_1)
For heavy-duty use external slabs/piling,
e.g. external paved areas subject to the constant loading and scraping
imposed by industrial vehicles and machinery
- C40 (ST 5/5_1)
For structural beams and agricultural use
- Screed 5 (Fibres/5_1)
For finishing floors, where
a smooth finish is required, 5:1 is the ratio of sharp sand to cement,
so this is the weakest of the 3 options.
- Screed 4 (Fibres/4_1)
For finishing floors, where a smooth finish is required, 4:1 is the ratio of sharp sand to cement, so this is a medium
strength mix and our most popular
- Screed 3 (Fibres/3_1 )
For finishing floors, where
a smooth finish is required, 3:1 is the ratio of sharp sand to cement,
so this is the strongest of the 3 options.
- Foam Concrete
For pouring around pipes. The concrete has a foaming agent added, enabling
the concrete to be chipped off in chunks, which makes it easier to remove
should any maintenance on the pipe be required.
We also offer the following additional products (admixtures) that we can
put into the concrete or screed, as the situation dictates.
Concrete:

- Air Trailers – this
adds and distributes tiny air bubbles in the concrete, which will reduce
damage during freeze-thaw cycles thereby increasing the concrete's durability.
However, entrained air is a trade-off with strength, as each 1% of air
may result in 5% decrease in compressive strength. Our air trailer modifies
the pore structure of the concrete giving it the following benefits:
- Lower permeability than plain concrete
- Bleeding of excess mix water is reduced
- The amount of laitance is reduced, enhancing the concrete's resistance
to frost attack
- Reduces the water demand of the concrete for a given workability
- Increases the cohesion of concrete mixes which make them easier to
handle and place
- Improves the durability of concrete exposed to freeze/thaw cycles due
to the reservoir of pores deployed which allow the expansion of water
without disruption to the concrete. This is of great value where concrete
is exposed to tidal conditions, splash zones and de-icing salts
- Plasticiser – to soften
the mix before it hardens, increasing its workability; this is not intended
to affect the properties of the final product after it hardens. Our plasticisers
offer the following advantages:
- Improved workability/reduces water/cement ratio
- Flexible high performance plasticiser
- High resistance to segregation/reduces bleeding
- Improved surface finish
- Reduces shrinkage cracking potential
- Higher initial and ultimate compressive strengths
- Higher durability concrete
- Multi functional
- Excellent slump retention
- High early strengths
- Rheology improver
- Cost effective
- Concrete Fibres – are
an alternate system to traditional reinforcement when used for secondary
(crack control only) reinforcing in concrete. They improve resistance
to intrinsic cracking, improve water tightness and offer an aesthetic
finish.
Our
fibres offer the following advantages:
- Reduces plastic shrinkage and settlement cracking
- Reinforces against the effect of shattering forces
- Inhibits and controls the formation of intrinsic cracking in concrete
- Reinforces against water migration
- Reinforces against impact forces
- Provides improved durability
- Reinforces against abrasion
- Provides freeze-thaw resistance
- Inhibits explosive spalling
Screed
- Retarder – Our Retarder is
formulated from phosphates which temporarily stop the chemical hydration
of cement. It allows the production of retarded concrete with increased
ultimate strengths. Our retarder offers the following advantages:
- Accuracy of retardation
- Long haul problems solved
- High resistance to segregation/reduces bleeding
- Higher initial and ultimate compressive strengths
- Higher durability concrete
- Screed Fibres -
these add tensile strength to produce reinforced concrete. Our fine fibrillated
fibres contain no reprocessed olefin materials. They are specially engineered
for use as reinforcement in screed. They are non magnetic, rustproof,
and alkali proof. Our fibres offer the following features and benefits:
- Provides increased early stage strength
- Increases cohesion and reduces segregation
- Reduces settlement and bleeding
- Inhibits and controls the formation of intrinsic cracking in concrete
- Reduces plastic shrinkage and settlement cracking
- Increases impact and shatter resistance
- Reinforces against abrasion
- Reduces freeze/thaw damage
- Provides improved toughness / durability
- Provides residual strength
